Nairobi, in 3D → all of Nairobi → at street level

This is the same 1.27M-building, tile-streamed store the city map renders — entered at eye level. Everything within ~500m of you streams in as you walk and is dropped again behind you, so the whole metro is walkable without the whole metro ever being loaded.

The ground is real. Nairobi runs from about 1,430m on the Athi plains to over 2,400m on the Ngong side, and the CBD sits in a valley between them. Until now the twin rendered all of it on a flat plane, which meant every relative height in the city was wrong no matter how accurate the individual buildings were. Terrain comes from public DEM tiles, sampled every 50m on the same grid as everything else.

The streets have names. 143,474 real road segments, 22,521 of them carrying a real street name, drawn with kerbs and real surfaces — a great deal of this metro is murram, not tarmac, and rendering it all as asphalt was a factual error rather than a stylistic one. Alongside them, 53,590 real named places from Overture: schools, stages, chemists, churches, dukas. Press L to turn the labels off if you want to see the massing on its own.

Footprints and positions are real (Overture Maps: Google Open Buildings + Microsoft ML footprints + OpenStreetMap, merged); heights are honest — measured from satellite imagery for 73% of the city, estimated for the rest. Two things here are inference rather than observation, and are marked as such in the code: a small, low building with no recorded roof shape is drawn with a pitched roof, because this city's low-rise stock overwhelmingly has one; and the traffic and pedestrians are simulated. There is no dataset of where a given vehicle is right now — what is real is the road each one drives on, and the junction it turns at.
