Nairobi, in 3D → Nairobi, at 1:1 → All of Nairobi

Not just the CBD anymore.

1.27 million real building footprints across greater Nairobi — Karen to Embakasi, Ruiru to Athi River — merged from Google's Open Buildings, Microsoft's ML footprints, and OpenStreetMap. Streamed tile by tile as you pan, not loaded all at once, and extruded to 3D: each building stands at its real height where we have one — 73% are now measured from satellite imagery — and colour shows exactly how each height was arrived at. Or drop to eye level anywhere with 🚶 walk here.

This is v2. 73.3% of buildings now carry a height measured from satellite imagery (Google Open Buildings 2.5D Temporal, 2023), 0.3% are surveyed, and the remaining 26% still fall back to an estimate from footprint, land-use and distance from the CBD core. Independent peer-reviewed validation against ICESat-2 laser altimetry puts these imagery heights at 2.49m mean absolute error in Nairobi. They disagree with Overture's own surveyed heights by 6.84m — a gap that says as much about the reliability of the surveyed values as about the imagery.
