AnswerTab

Ask about the thing in front of you, without leaving it. Being rebuilt as a standalone reader.

What it does

AnswerTab is an in-place explainer: you ask about a passage where you are reading it, and you can keep asking. The argument is that the cost of a mid-document lookup is not the trip to a new tab but getting back — so a docked panel or a spotlight overlay solves the visible half and leaves the expensive half intact. What is running today is a gated ask surface on the web: a question, an optional passage for context, and a thread that takes follow-ups. That is deliberately the conversational half first, because a single-shot explanation is a dictionary and users route around it within a week. The original Chrome extension has been retired and is not coming back in that form; a standalone client is the direction, because an explainer that vanishes for PDFs, documents and messages has replaced a reliable habit with an unreliable one. Queries are proxied to Claude and answers streamed back, not stored.
